The Cult
On Tour1,843,135 plays (136,885 listeners)
(1981 – present)
Due to the rise of grunge in the early 90’s, the Cult’s self titled sixth studio album (The Cult) received poor sales and the band went on hiatus. It wasn’t until 1999, when Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy reunited with former drummer Matt Sorum, that the band recorded new material. With Martyn Lenoble of Porno for Pyros on bass, the band recorded Beyond Good and Evil, which for a time had the mock title of Bring me the Head of Dave Grohl, in reference to his hand in Nirvana and the grunge boom.
The band took another hiatus in 2002, with Ian Astbury working with members of The Doors and Matt Sorum joining a few of his former Guns N’ Roses band mates to form Velvet Revolver. In 2006, Astbury reunited the band for a string of shows as well as an appearance on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. A massive tour followed throughout the year and 2007 will see the release of some new material, as well as a European summer tour.

mėgstu šią grupę nuo mažens. ji kaip lygūs su lygiais ėjo su The Cure, The Mission, Cocteau Twins ir Clan Of Xymox (tik didesnis žingsnis į gitarinio rocko teritoriją, dėl B.Duffy gitaros soluočių)

They are underrated in part because they are misunderstood. And part of that has to do with their flip-flopping of styles during their prime - but in the long run, looking back, that's one of the reasons they're so interesting: the diversity. Southern Death Cult was a bizarre new wave goth band and over 20 years later they've changed into a proper rock band, and in between there was a lot of great stuff. The psychedelia of 'Love' is superb but I also love the AC/DC riffage of 'Electric.'
