1. How did you get into 29?
Elliott Smith; actually because of my Jeff Buckley obsession. My friend sent me a copy of a free cd from the magazine Les Inrockuptibles because it had a live version of Grace on it. the others songs included
Keep It a Secret (
Jay-Jay Johanson),
In The Sun (
Joseph Arthur),
Goodnight Moon (
Shivaree),
10x2 (
Sophie Moleta), and
happiness (the gondola man) (
Elliott Smith). I loved it straight away and was partly deceived by a lot of his other tracks. this was back in 1999. or maybe 2000.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
John Frusciante; the first song on the first album I ever bought by him (
To Record Only Water For Ten Days). I bought it because I read a very good review when it came out but I'd never heard a single song by him before. the song to open the album is
Going Inside and it's amazing.

Something Corporate; hm, I have no 'good' memories, only sad ones. Actually,
Straw Dog reminds me of the winter my grandma died. we drove through little northern Italy villages on an incredibly sunny sunday morning, it was around the time that the whole thing with Iraq started so there were rainbow 'PACE' flags hanging on all facades, and I was listening to that song on repeat and feeling like something was totally off, somehow. a few hours later, right after we passed the border, we got the message that my grandmother had died; we U-turned and drove to Rome and all I could think of was that I didn't have any black clothes for the funeral.
