#1.
Critically acclaimed as a “superstar line-up” of death metal, the band is the brainchild of Anders Nyström (Katatonia, Diabolical Masquerade), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia, October Tide), Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale, more), and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth). The whole project was the upshot of one rip-roaring night, intended to reinvent old school death metal.
Åkerfeldt left Bloodbath after “Resurrection Through Carnage” because of his duties in his primary band Opeth. Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, The Abyss) replaced Mikael and did vocals for the “Nightmares Made Flesh” release.
Mikael Åkerfeldt helped the band out at Wacken Open Air 2005, after his replacement (on “Nightmares Made Flesh”), Mr. Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, The Abyss) departed. This ‘Wacken Carnage DVD’ (as it has since been called) was not released for a long time, as it remained shrouded in legal and copyright disputes.
This show was their one-and-only live performance up to 2008 since, in August 2006, Dan Swanö was asked to amicably leave Bloodbath (due to “restrictions on his behalf to devote more time and effort to the future of this project that it would require by taking things to the next level i.e. touring and playing live”, and his future vision for Bloodbath’s concept heading “in the almost opposite direction as his desire for death metal was to be of a less brutal kind”). Moreover, up to 2008, the band remained without a vocalist, during which time they held an open audition online, later stating they were appalled because, “so many applications could barely be listened to because of the extreme low quality in talent.

Fathomless Mastery is good, but it's not reallyt what i was expecting. imo it kinda goes against "intended to reinvent old school death metal"

My god. I'm so fucking fed up of genre-WHORES. This is Death Metal. Not tradicionally death, but hey, what the hell are traditional these days. Bloodbath are death. Good or not, up to everyone to decide. They're death. Get fucking over it! Stop whoring and give us your unbiased opinion instead...

So old school swedish death metal such as Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Gorement, Nihilist, Carnage and Wombbath are all melodeath?? Aha

OurFatherChaos wrote:
I'm not saying they don't, I was just refuting your statement about there being an almost exclusively Melodeath scene in Sweden, because thats not true, there are a large number of actual death metal bands in Sweden, and they HAVE formed their own style separate from the American scene

nathancbriggs wrote:
im not saying bloodbath is melodic death metal but they certainly have a melodic influence, i think its what makes them great and unique is their somewhere between melodic death and old school death

Bloodbath were trying to revive the old school SWEDISH death metal scene, not the American scene

OurFatherChaos wrote:
For one guys, Entombed is NOT Melodic death, and the Swedish scene is not pervasively Melodeath, in fact, a large number of straight up Death Metal bands came out of Sweden in the 90s

Cannibal Corpse are too over the top for me. Even more so than Bloodbath.

nathancbriggs wrote:
contrary to popular opinion they have a melodic death metal influence, and swedish old school death metal is a made up scene because the swedish scene is almost exclusively melodic death metal, they also have an old school death metal influence mostly from morbid angel, its a great band but if you cant see a melodic influence your retarded, if you dont believe me stop listening to the lyrics(THEY DON'T DEFINE THE GENRE OF A BAND!!!) and start listening to the instruments namely the riffs many of them are quite melodic

trutteli wrote:
by death metal bands I mean Death, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Nile etc. This band reminds me nothing of that genre. They call themselves "the superstars of death metal" or whatever, that's fucking messed up... I never called this band bad and I never called them non-death metal. I like this band (sorry for calling them fail, that's not what I meant atm I wrote that),

Sorry but you fail, this is obviously based around Swedish Old School Death Metal (Early albums at least) not fucking melodeath. Maybe you need to try listening to 'real death metal' and get you dick out of Cannibal Corpse and Children of Bodom.
