  • Songs simply don't start playing. Sometimes.

Was hoping to find that this was an existing issue on the forum, but I wasn't able to find any threads about it. If a thread exists, I could use a link.

When listening to my last.fm playlist through the client software, songs occasionally won't start playing.

There's no message pop-up that says there are no more content available for play, the album image, band image, band details and all that stuff show up and the playtime of the song shows up in the scrobble bar. Track length does not start counting down and the 'current station' timer stops counting up.

I can stop the player and restart it, but I cannot skip to the next track as that button stays grayed out. Doesn't seem to be because of any specific songs and this is a new problem within the last week or two.

    Thanks for any help.
  • I have the exact same thing.

Exactly the same happened 2 minutes ago.
  • This constantly happens to me.
  • try to close the window and open it again. you've gotta scrobble again, but it works

That's like rebooting Windows to keep it working - does the job, but is hella annoying :)

  • So, is this a known issue? Is it happening to many others?

Does anybody at last.fm want some more specific info on my setup? I didn't mention this before, but I'm using a mac with OS X 10.4.11 if that helps anything.

Don't really use it on my XP machine at home.
  • Is this recurring? how many times per day for instance? Beside from some occasionl hiccups i don't think there is some technical issue on our side at the moment.
What is your internet connection? Wich client version?

  • Well it started about 2-3 weeks ago, and most days it would happen around 4-6 times a day (for reference, I listen to headphones at work and probably listen to about 100-150 songs a day).

Occasionally would happen less. And actually, I don't think it's happened once in the last 2 days.

I figure there's not much that can be done about a problem that is relatively rare and not readily repeatable. There wouldn't be plans to implement (or is there already) a debugging utility or logging utility into the client program would there?

Internet connection is a shared T3. Client version 1.5.1.29527.
  • You know, I haven't had this problem anymore. My Vista got cured from a whole lot of odd problems when I got rid of Panda antivirus and some HP sofware.
Panda was hanging up Firefox process and doing all sorts of nuisance.

This happened a lot about a week ago. Songs would not play (may be specific ones). Usually, if a song is taken off Last.fm, it just skips it but I am guessing this is an issue with some servers distributing the songs.

  • Well, as other people confirm doesn't look like a consistent problem.

Just bare in mind that occasional streaming issues more than from our side (we have servers that run specifically for that and sure are not undersized to the average volume of traffic) could happen in an ISP congestion time/period. Or when in a shared network other people using bandwith consuming applications, at home if there are other applications downloading or streaming while streaming last.fm radio.
