iPod not being detected

  • Ok so everything is updated on mine and scrobbling from iTunes straight to my profile works fine but my iPod, although it is detected, is not updating on last.fm. i'm getting worried as i've left it for about half a week now and i don't wanna lose a record of all the hardcore listening i've been doing!!

I've just been sticking it out hoping it works until now.

I hope to god this gets fixed in the next update.
  • I get about a third my ipod plays to come through the scrobbler and the other two-thirds don't show up, which is quite strange. One song will be picked up by AS, two or three won't, then another one will. I just have to go through manually and find the ones that weren't detected and then play them again so they'll scrobble... quite annoying!
  • 1) 20 G (4th generation iPod, click wheel)
    2) iTunes 7.6.2
    3) Mac OS X 10.4.11
    Last.fm version 1.5.1.29527

It was working just fine last week, and now it won't recognize my iPod or find the scrobbles from it.
I tried the beta and it did nothing, nor did the older version of last.fm.
I went to diagnostics and clicked scrobble iPod numerous times, and nothing happened. I tried ejecting my iPod/restarting iTunes/restarting last.fm/restarting the computer, and nothing happened.
    I manually manage my iPod.
any ideas on what I can do?

Re:will it work for you too??

    1. Sync your ipod with iTunes. Once it's done,
    2. Open the last.fm app.
    3. Go to Help -> Diagnostics.
    4. Go to the "ipod scrobbling" tab.
    5. Select "Automatic iPod Syncing"
    & Press "scrobble ipod"
    6. Select "Manual iPod Syncing"
    & Press "scrobble ipod"

    using LastFM for Windows 1.5.1.27516(Beta)
    & iPod 5G (& iPod-Shuffle 2G)

My iPod hasn't scrobbled anything at all since the beginning of April, and I've tried virtually everything that's been suggested in any of the threads here in the support section. It's been driving me crazy. I finally got it working with one of the older versions today, 1.4.2.59470. I don't dare to try a new upgrade again till I know for sure that it'll work with my iPod, as I listen to most of my music there.

    Here are my stats:
    1. iPod Video, 80GB
    2. iTunes 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows XP Professional
    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.1.0

I'm glad we have the support-team to turn to when something's wrong! Thanks for all your help! :)
  • ok, i said this a couple weeks ago

you have to get last.fm 1.5.1.30182, with the itunes plugin 3.0.1.0, then install the old iScrobbler (1.1.0).
then on the help tab, go to diagnostics > ipod scrobbling.

done it on 3 pc's now, and it wouldn't work for me without iScrobbler 1.1.0 (i manually manage my ipod).
  • a reset did help in my case

    Hey everyone

Just joined this awesome service, unfortunately I was also faced by automatic ipod sync problems (worked fine through diagnostic, no user association was set for the automatic entry). I tried pretty much everything, even manually added the missing info to the registry - nothing helped.

After I already gave up I cleaned the list and did a restore of my ipod (due to some unrelated problems). to my surprise the last.fm client popped up after the restore and found my ipod including the user association - it works perfectly now!

Make sure you back up all non-synced data if you want to give this a try :)
    return 0;

Well I guess I have used up my luck - After another restore the automatic scrobbling broke again. I tried multiple restores after that but it doesn't recognize the user association and as expected, doesn't do any automatic scrobbling.

Please ignore my restore hint :)

  • My scrobbling just started working again...I don't even know how, but whatever.
I lost a bunch of listening from last weekend but as long as it's working again I'm fine.

My problem is that my iPod is coming up under "known iPods" but when I plug my iPod in nothing happens at all. I have iPod scrobbling enabled, I even have it checked now to confirm the scrobbles, but nothing is happening! I don't know what to do! Anyone possibly know what I can do? Please send me a private message if you have any idea.
  • Ipod Scrobbling Plays Before I joined????

I just started a LastFM account, but i have a Question....Is their anyway to Scrobble the Plays on my Ipod before i Started a LastFM account, it only took the Plays from my Itunes, but i dont have that many songs on Itunes, I only put them on to my Ipod and not Itunes. I ushually only listen to my ipod through Itunes or windows media Player when iam sitting at my Computer, So if anyone knows if i can Scrobble all the songs i have listened to on my Ipod before I joined LastFM???

    If that is even Possible....

I had the same problem with no ipod scrobbling. This is what I came up with until the guys solve it. Sorry if it's been posted before, such a long thread!

First, make sure you selected yor ipod via Options->ipod in last.fm app.

    1. Sync your ipod with iTunes. Once it's done,
    2. Open the last.fm app.
    3. Go to Help -> Diagnostics.
    4. Go to the "ipod scrobbling" tab.
    5. Press "scrobble ipod"

If it worked, you'll see your songs being cached in the log window and a pop up will ask for confirmation. Press "scrobble" and you're done, your ipod has been scrobbled.

Again, cross your fingers, I don't know why it works either.

    Massive thumbs up for this.

    424 songs just scrobbled :)

Thank you so much! This works for me, using Last.fm app version 1.5.1.30182 and iTunes app version 3.0.1.0! :D
  • I've done everything you say but when I press the "scrobble ipod" button it just comes up alot of COM errors repetedly and that it can't find the path for the file.

How do I go from here?? How do I manage to get it to find the right path?
I have Last Fm 1.5.1.30182, iTunes plugin 3.0.1.0 and iPodScrobbler 1.1.0

    Please help!
  • I have the same problem
  • I haven't read the whole thread (it's long), but how does iPod scrobling work? When I make the last.fm software to look for plugins it only finds iTunes and not the iPod??

Even newer versions than when this started...

What I've got is sporadic scrobbling.

    1) 5th Gen Video iPod software ver 1.3
    2) Windows XP Pro SP3
    3) iTunes 7.6.2.9
    4) Last.FM 1.5.1.29527
    5) iTunes plugin 3.0.1.0
    6) WMP plugin 2.1.0.6

iTunes playing songs scrobbles just fine.
WMP playing songs scrobbles just fine.

iPod scrobbling takes the following workaround:
    1) Attach and sync iPod
    2) Close iTunes
2a) Sometimes this gives me a warning about the plugin working and asking if I want to wait.
2b) If so, last.fm scrobbles partial list of songs played on iPod, with tracks missing in no particular order/place
2c) Go to 3 to complete scrobbling
    3) Close iTunes
    4) Close Last.fm
    5) Open iTunes, last.fm will open automatically and scrobble more tracks, but just like 2b, still be missing some.
    6) Go to 3 and repeat until all tracks are scrobbled.

Also, when songs do scrobble, even thought he confirmation window says the song, it often shows up double on my profile "recently listened" list, as the same time.

Scrobbling is enabled. Last.fm sees the ipod, is attached to a user. Always confirm ipod scrobbles enabled.

So.. it's working.... sort of. Frustrating though.

Haha, got 1336 scrobbles when I did this. It havn't been working for a while.

The "scrobble ipod" thing worked, but it only scrobbled 1 song (hadnt scrobbled in a few days) and that 1 song was a song I played in iTunes, not on my ipod.
  • Updated from beta this morning...client doesn't see my device at all (the device list is empty)

    80gb Classic iPod
    Software Version: 1.1.2

Well.. My iPod is now connected and appears in the client.
But a little pop up appears everytime I try to scrobble it. It first say "determing iPod scrobbles" and then another pop up appears saying "no iPod scrobbles were found". I spent my entire afternoon listening to music.

    2) WinXP
    3) iTunes 7.6.2.9
    4) last.fm plugin 3.0.1.0

Thank you so much for this solution, it worked perfectly for me. I only wish I could go back in time to submit all the scrobbles I've lost in the past! Thanks!
