    Not receiving any Last.fm recommendations.

Yes, I have searched around the FAQ and the forums and to no avail. My Last.fm recommendations have not been updating for 2 weeks. What's strange is that I've had two rare incidents where I see the new recommendations on the dashboard, but once I go to the recommendations page, they disappear and are gone for good. Help would be very much appreciated, especially considering that I'm a fairly new member and can use all the recommendations I come across. Thanks in advance.
  • I am having the same problem

    it's been 2-3 weeks and I haven't gotten anything.
  • I am also having the same problem

It's been about a month for me though, maybe three weeks.

I luffs my last.fm recommendations =( come back plz
  • I was told theres nothing they can do and its something in the site thats just lagged behind or something. This is really starting to make me hate last.fm though.
this is ridiculous. its been over a month for me now.

I suggest you send them a direct email about the problem.
  • Go to your music recommendations page on your dashboard:
    http://www.last.fm/dashboard/music/
and try changing from overall recommendations to weekly recommendations if you don't have any overall ones, and the other way around.

Sometimes you haven't been a member for long enough with enough plays scrobbled yet to get overall recommendations, sometimes you didn't listen to enough music in the week before to get weekly recommendations.
  • none of the above fits my case.

there has to be a logical way for them to fix this or to speed up/reset something? Being told to just "wait it out" is anything but assuring.
  • try changing from overall recommendations to weekly recommendations if you don't have any overall ones, and the other way around..

Worked for me when I tried this morning, I have a whole bunch of weekly recommended. Thanks :)

Oh and acerbiccunnt77, chill out a bit ey - it's not like you're a subscriber.

I didn't get any new recommendations in approx. 3 weeks, but I didn't freak out though. Just waited patiently and then last weekend -simsalabim- new recommendations just appeared. Voilà!

Just because he's not a subscriber doesn't mean he's less important and his shouldn't be annoyed that the site isn't working as advertised. Last.fm is still making money off of his visits and listening habits through advertisers.

I started scrobbling a couple weeks ago solely so I could get new music recommendations. Nada so far. I'm not a subscriber, but if they're making money and promising me features, those features should work.
  • and it's a good thing I'm not a subscriber cos the problem would still be occuring and I would be more livid than before. Yes, they will come eventually (or so they say). But its been sooooo long that there will be months worth of reccomendations on the stuff I was listening to MONTHS AGO. Meaning who cares about the old shit, get it working now for next week!
  • Did this ever get resolved?

I haven't had any new recommendations for about three weeks running now, or maybe even a month. At first, I thought I hadn't been playing enough music to generate any new ones. But last week I definitely played a number of tracks that weren't already on my recommended list, but the recommendations still didn't get updated.

Scrobbling is working OK, and so are the charts.
  • No.

I have still not had any recommendations.
  • /Sigh...Thanks for the update!

Still not working here either, and nobody seems to care. True, I'm not a subscriber, but on the evidence of this, I never will be. I'm certainly not willing to pay for a service that doesn't work properly for weeks on end.

You listened to a pitiful amount of music this week (according to your weekly charts). As was said earlier this may directly impact the frequency of your recommendation updates.

    Try listening to more music...
'Maybe living and dying are the same thing, maybe the fact that we turn them into two different things is why we feel so lost.'
  • It has nothing whatever to do with amount of music!

I have been away this week, and so have not listened to Last FM at all. (Not "pitiful" - just that I have a life!)

However, this is NOT a one-off problem related to this week. I have not had any new recommendations now for what must be months, rather than weeks. Quite apart from the fact it still did not update even in weeks when I did listen to more, it always used to come up with some new recommendations, even when my listening was minimal. So something has definitely changed or broken. Nothing makes it update now.
  • Having the same issue

I'm listening to music everyday and my recommendations have been empty for weeks? When I joined I had recommendations but I haven't received any new ones since. I thought this was a weekly function?
  • This on-going and really annoying problem is the main factor which is making me question whether to renew my subscription or not.

Come on someone at Lastfm, have the balls to tell us why it's not working.
  • Anybody from lastfm going to reply?
  • I would never consider purchasing a subscription under these circumstances. And I'm rather sick of other users saying its our fault for not listening to enough music or some other BS response.

If and when last.fm mods reply all they have to say is "wait it out." I've sent them emails attempting to address the situation and I'm still left waiting...
  • Another week passes, and still no fresh recommendations. I will never be converted to a paying customer, either. I might have considered it, if it worked reliably, or if there was at least a quick fix when it doesn't.

For the record, moderators don't really know much more than you do - we're not paid, we're not staff members, we just volunteer (my dictionary tells me that that's spelt correctly, my eyes say it isn't :-/ ) to help where we can. A moderator telling you to wait something out should be treated as "if you wait a little while it should fix itself" rather than any immediate solution to the problem.
Being a moderator does not equate to being last.fm staff. Any views in my posts are my own, and shouldn't be assumed to be shared by other moderators or staff members.

  • So, do concerns raised on this forum NEVER get passed to the techies, or do the techies themselves not stop by and have a look?

If multiple users are reporting something hasn't been working for weeks and weeks, how does this get resolved?
  • why would moderators reply to an email about technical difficulties if they don't know any more than I do...?

The people telling others who are having the problem to just keep quiet is kinda surprising to me. Last.fm isn't a beta site or service. One of it's biggest selling points is recommendations, and its not working.

I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else. It's been baffling to me. It seems one week all of a sudden I got bunch of recommendations that are NOTHING like what I listen to, and they've barely changed at all since then.

Some is very, very broken. *I* am a subscriber and I want it fixed. The beta site is looking really sweet, but I'm not going to wait forever for a main feature to be fixed.

At least give us an answer last.fm.

The recs on the beta are superb. Use them in the meantime before the site gets launched? Then you'll have them all the time.
